Nerve Drugs Gabapentin And Pregabalin Tied To Breathing Issues
According to a recent report by the Associated Press, health regulators are ringing alarm bells about a pair of popular nerve drugs prescribed to treat symptoms such as “seizures, nerve pain, restless leg syndrome” and other nervous system conditions. The Food and Drug Administration is adding warning labels to medication packaging for drugs such as Neurontin and Lyrica (brand names for gabapentin and pregabalin) to warn users about the possibility of developing dangerous breathing problems.
“The new labels will warn doctors against prescribing the drugs with other medications that can slow breathing, including opioid painkillers. The breathing risks also apply to elderly patients and those with existing lung problems”, as reported by the AP.
Tenacious Representation For The Victims Of Gabapentin And Pregabalin
At Roberts & Harris PC we applaud federal regulators for stepping in and providing doctors and consumers with the information they need to make thoughtful decisions about their treatment options. Unfortunately, this action is too late for those who have already suffered serious injuries as a result of these drugs.
The FDA received nearly 50 reports of breathing problems linked to these drugs between 2012 and 2017, and this warning coming to the forefront may help others connect the dots between their breathing problems and their prescription drugs.
Our personal injury attorneys bring more than 40 years of experience to these cases, including more than 100 jury trials.
